ISLAMABAD – Senate Chairman Farooq Naek on Thursday announced to constitute a parliamentary committee to suggest ways and means for the recovery of missing persons and overcoming target killings, particularly in Balochistan.
He told the Senate on Thursday that the committee would be constituted in consultation with the leader of the house and leader of the opposition. The committee would discuss the issue faced by Balochistan in detail and give recommendations for its resolution.
The Senate chairman asked the interior minister to take action in light of reports of impersonating of criminals as law enforcement agencies and their raids at houses in parts of Balochistan. He was of the view that the trend would malign the security forces in the eyes of the public.
Interior Minister Rehman Malik told the Upper House that the number of missing persons in the country was around 203, and whereabouts of 28 of these had been found. Responding to points of order raised by senators, the interior minister said a judicial commission was also formed, adding that this commission had located the whereabouts of 254 missing persons.
He said the government was proceeding on a comprehensive strategy to recover the missing people. He praised the Supreme Court for its role in recovering the missing people , saying the judicial commission set up by the apex court had also done an appreciable job. Commenting on the ongoing action against terrorists, the interior minister said the action against the terrorists and extremists would be taken to its logical end.
Malik said the terrorists intended to disintegrate Pakistan and were playing with the lives of innocent people, but the government, with the support of all political forces and people, “will foil their nefarious designs”. He said it was not the time for political point scoring but standing united to overcome various challenges faced by the country.
Malik said people from Mir Ali and associated with the Lashkar-e-Jhangvi, Al Qaeda and the TTP were behind the DG Khan blast.
