MQM slams increase in transport fares

KARACHI – Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM)’s Rabita Committee has criticised the two-rupee increase in public transport fares, terming it as a gross injustice to the people of the city.
According to the committee, the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority had increased Petroleum, Oil and Lubricants (POL) prices a few days ago; but the increase has not been withdrawn despite government’s assurances. The increase in POL prices and the consequent increase by the public transporters in the fares would add to the woes of the citizens who are already faced with overwhelming problems, the committee members said.
They stressed upon the federal government to think in earnest about the increase in POL prices and transport fares. They said that the underprivileged people of the country should be delivered from the punitive increase in prices of essential, daily-use commodities.
