LAHORE – Pakistan Medical Society (PMS) organised a seminar in connection with the World Health Day at the University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences (UVAS) on Thursday. World Health Organization Punjab Operation Officer Dr Babar Alam, while addressing the seminar, said that the use of antibiotic medicines should be controlled.
He said the government along with different organisations will have to start an awareness program to better the treatment methods. He said that the use of medicine would be according to patents economic position and nature of disease. PMS Chairman Dr Masood Sheikh said, “We need to better the use of life saving drugs to save our future generation. The government should ban quackery throughout the country.”
College of Physicians and Surgeons Pakistan Regional Director Prof Dr Khalid Masood Gondal said, “We have to introduce new medicines in the coming future for which we have to plan a comprehensive strategy.”
RAISING AWARENESS: A free medical camp was also set up at the Shalamar Hospital’s Out Patient Department-I. Patients were facilitated with free blood sugar test, cholesterol, BMI and BMD tests along with blood pressure and weight check-ups. Moreover, free consultation was provided to the public and awareness literature and free medicines were provided to the patients in the camp.
People were also given awareness about how to control diseases. Shalamar Hospital Chief Executive Dr Rashid Ahmed visited the camp and appreciated the involvement of pharmaceutics.
