FAISALABAD – If you are young at heart, age is no bar even if you are 80. This is the message spread across Faisalabad as the news of wedding of an 80-year-old groom and his 70-year-old bride became the talk of the town. Bridegroom Aslam, a resident of Bhawana, whose first wife has expired, has six grown-up children from his first marriage.
He was crowned with Sehra when he reached his in-laws’ house with a baraat, all dressed in ceremonial costumes. Bride Bano Begum, a widow and mother of seven, was attired in a red bridal dress embroidered with golden threads.
The most significant feature of the ceremony was that both sides were accompanied by children and grand children that added colours to the start of a new life. A Nikah Khawan conducted the Nikah with dowry money of Rs 5500 paid by the groom to his newly wed wife as a tribute.
The residents of the village are very excited at the new relationship shaped up between the two families while a guest, hinting at the white beard of the groom, said: “Love remains ever fresh even if your beard turns grey.
