ISLAMABAD – Hundreds of students of various universities, professors, and employees of the Higher Education Commission (HEC) on Tuesday took to the streets against the ruling PPP for its decision to devolve HEC to provinces.
Carrying national flags in their hands, students and professors gathered outside HEC, where dozens of HEC employees joined them to protest against the proposed devolution. JUI-F Senator Azam Khan Swati also visited the venue to express solidarity with the protesting teachers and students against the government’s proposal.
Calling the devolution a “disaster”, Swati said the devolution would take the country years back. “The Raza Rabbani-led implementation commission should not make the devolution of HEC a matter of egos,” he said. Swati said the JUI-F would fully oppose the devolution of HEC in the upcoming assembly session.
“Keeping in mind the progress made by HEC in the last eight years in the higher education sector, I came here to register my protest against the government for its decision to devolve HEC,” said Muhammd Ali, a disabled student of NUML told Pakistan Today.
