LAHORE – Given the greater availability of water, both of the main units of Khan Khwar Hydropower Station have started generating 68 megawatt (MW) electricity in line with its cumulative installed capacity, delivering over 1.1 million units of electricity to the national electricity grid daily, which is equivalent to a revenue of over Rs 10 million. The third auxiliary unit of four MW will also go into operation soon.
It is pertinent to mention that Khan Khwar Hydropower Station started its commercial operation in December 2010. The 72-MW Khan Khwar Hydropower Station, one of the three high-head hydropower projects, has been constructed on Khan Khwar River, a tributary of the Indus River near Besham in Shangla district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province. Rest of the two projects namely 121 MW Allai Khwar and 130 MW Duber Khwar are also at an advanced stage in their completion.
