LAHORE – Awami Muslim League (AML) chief Sheikh Rashid has said categorically that the judiciary and all the state departments were on board over the release of the US killer, Raymond Davis’.
He expressed these views while addressing a press conference at the office of Pakistan Muslim League (PML-Likeminded Punjab Information Secretary Mian Muhammad Asif. The Muttahida Muslim League (MML) provincial office bearers were also present on that occasion.
He lamented the people of the country were being deprived of their rights. “I do agree with President Asif Ali Zardari who himself has stated that he (Zardari) is hearing discussions about technocrats’ government,” Sh Rashid remarked. He also said the Punjab was the most peaceful province of the country, but owing to the poor policies and wrong decisions, governance here had become a question mark. Not only the federal but also the provincial governments had failed to deliver, he added. Responding to a question about the unification of all factions of Muslim League, Sheikh Rashid said he had no wish to visit Raiwind. He added the frequent division of the Muslim League had weakened it while the ‘third force’ could benefit from this situation. He revealed he was still in contact with PML-Q leadership and often talked to them over the national issues.
Answering another question, he said the people of the country had witnessed that PPP and PML-N, both the mainstream political forces, had supported each other during the last three years. There is no chance of ‘no-confidence motion’ as the cooperation would continue, he added.
Responding to another question, he said: “We have not committed any crime, so why do no need to seek apology from PML-N.” He added if supporting a general was a crime, the PML-N had already set this precedent by supporting Ziaul Haq.
Yet to another question about young doctors’ strike in the Punjab, he said Shahbaz Sharif should personally deal with the issue otherwise hakims/quaks would replace the doctors in the hospitals. He added it was the worst kind of negligence on the part of the government that patients were being left at the mercy of Allah Almighty.
Sheikh Rashid said he would hold meetings with the Muslim League workers in all the cities of the Punjab, including Lahore, Faisalabad and Gujranwala.
PML-Likeminded Punjab Information Secretary Mian Asif said his party was making efforts for the unification of Muslim League and vowed to continue efforts in the best interest of the country.
