Camp held ahead of Asian Under-20 Rugby

LAHORE – The Pakistan Rugby Union held the first camp for the Pakistan Under-20 team at the DHA rugby grounds, Lahore. The two-day camp was divided into three parts, training, fitness and game play. The players went through a vigorous fitness and training schedule on the first day of the camp, and on the second day the players were introduced to game situations.
The Pakistan U20 team have been invited to participate in the Asian U20 Championship Div III, which will be played in Iran from July 20 to 27. Pakistan are expected to face Laos, Iran, Singapore, Kazakhstan and India. This will be the third time Pakistan participate in the Age Grade Asian Championship.
President Pakistan Rugby Union Fawzi Khawaja said: “It is great that our junior boys will compete in the Asian championship Div iii again this year. The boys who played in the last two U20 events have started to make a mark in the senior team, and this year the boys who go on tour will be part of the Pakistan rugby team in the future.”
The players are being coached by PRU’s full-time coach Fahad Ali, while Tariq Niazi will be managing the side. Two to three more selection camps will be held before the final squad of 30 players is announced in May. The next camp will be held on the next weekend in Islamabad.
