LAHORE – A relative of Mohsin Warraich, one of the accused in the NICL land scam, on Monday presented 10 post-dated cheques of Rs 420 million to a local judge. His defence counsel Sheikh Azhar said the family was submitting these cheques under protest.
FIA ADG Zafar Qureshi confirmed that Mohsin’s family had handed over the cheques to the special central judge of the FIA, adding that the mark-up on the said amount would also go to the NICL. He said if any cheque bounced, the FIA would have a right to sell the land of Mohsin’s family. Qureshi claimed that Mohsin’s family had given the cheques as a result of a deal with the Chaudhrys to save the political career of Moonis Elahi.
He said that two meetings between the Warraich family and Moonis were held at the FIA’s main office in Lahore. He said that the FIA would complete legal action against the accused persons, including Moonis, despite the fact that cheques had been submitted in court.
