IIUI male campus remains closed over ‘Talibanisation’

ISLAMABAD – In the wake of a clash between two students groups, the male campus of International Islamic University Islamabad (IIUI) remained closed on Monday. The students belonging to Khyber Pakhtunkhwa observed a complete strike and boycotted classes against what they termed Islami Jamiat-e-Tulba (IJT)’s Talibanisation at the university campus.
The strike call was given by Pakhtun Student Federation (PSO) over IJT’s members alleged tortured on the PSO students for arranging a function in the premises of the varsity. The PSO had organised a musical evening on Friday to celebrate the renaming of their province. However, the IJT students attacked them and allegedly tortured a number of students.
The chief of the IJT, Noor-ul-Bashar, said the brawl took place between over the issue of the musical night, which according to IJT, was violation of code and conduct of the university. He denied that JTI resorted to use of force instead it was the PSO which initiated the fight, Noor claimed.
Meanwhile, People’s Student Federation (PSF) President Waqas Ahmad Abbas told reporters that Pakhtun students with the permission of the university administration arranged a traditional cultural programme with light dance (Athan) to mark the annual celebration of renaming of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, but IJT men attacked them.
