‘Bandit’ killed in police encounter

KARACHI – An alleged bandit was killed in a police encounter near Kalapul on Monday. Defence police said that two suspects riding a motorcycle had robbed a hawker of cash, mobile phone and his motorcycle near the Kalapul when the police reached the spot.
On getting information from the victim, the police gave the alleged bandits a chase and intercepted them near the Kalapul flyover. However, the suspects opened fire on the police party and when the law enforcers retaliated, one of the suspects suffered serious bullet injuries while his accomplice managed to flee.
The injured man identified as Arshad, 25, son of Zulfiqar, was shifted to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre, where he succumbed to his injuries. The police also recovered the looted money, a cell phone and a motorcycle from the suspects and registered FIR No 125/11 under sections 392, 353, 324, 34 and 13-D of the Pakistan Panel Code.
