Students, teachers protest killing of college professor

FAISALABAD – Hundreds of teachers and students of the Fatima Jinnah Girls College demonstrated against the killing of Assistant Professor Shagufta who was gunned down by unidentified culprits on March 30 in the Sadar police area.
The protesters demanded the police to arrest the killers. They alleged the police were showing negligence in the case. Earlier, the deceased’s father, Rana Riasat, a resident of People’s Colony No 1, reported to the Sadar police that the dead body of his daughter Shagufta, 33, was dumped at a deserted place at Chak No 233 RB by the unknown killers who cut her throat with a knife.
The deceased was said to be divorced by her husband, but her father has not mentioned anyone in the FIR.
CHILD KIDNAPPED FOR RS 5M RANSOM RECOVERED Regional Police Officer (RPO) announced a cash reward of Rs. 100,000/ for the Jarranwala police team that raided a house in Daska, Sialkot, and recovered a 3-year-old boy kidnapped from Jarranwala for a ransom of Rs 5 million. Three accused, including a woman, were arrested in connection with the crime.
ASP Jarranwala Waheedur Rehman Khattak who led the operation told reporters three-year-old Shahzeb, son of Shakeel Younis, a resident of Nawaz Colony, was kidnapped on March 26 while playing outside his house. Shakeel Younis, a property dealer, was later contacted by the unidentified kidnappers who demanded Rs 5 million for his son’s release.
The kidnappers continued to call the mother and father of the victim asking for money. At one point, the family was asked to bring the ransom money to Satyana Adda but later they changed their plan and asked them to come to Dhudiwala, Faisalabad.
On the other hand, Jarranwala police marked a suspect, Shah Nawaz, who was constantly engaged with the family in negotiating with, and tracking down, the kidnappers. He was taken by the police for interrogation during which he admitted that the kidnapped boy was into the custody of his brother Sarfaraz and his wife Yasmeen.
The police raided the accused couple’s house in Bismillah Chowk, Madina Town. They admitted that they had kept the kidnapped boy in Daska, Sialkot. ASP Waheedur Rehman sent a police team along with the arrested couple. As they raided the house, they recovered the boy from the custody of another woman who was also arrested.
She later told the police that Sarfaraz and his wife Yasmeen had handed her over the child, telling her that his father was sick and she would be paid a substantial amount of money for looking after him. She pleaded that she was kept totally in the dark over the kidnap drama.
RPO Aftab Ahmed Cheema has announced a cash reward of Rs 100,000 for three policemen – Sub-Inspector Riaz Ahmed, Sergeant Allah Ditta and Constable Farooq – who participated in the recovery operation.
COP FACES PROBE OVER FAILURE TO NAB CRIMINAL: The Barnala Police Post in charge is facing an inquiry after he failed to arrest the most wanted criminal of Faisalabad, Khalid alias Kaloo. According to details, police informers tipped off Sub-Inspector Yousuf Shahzad five days back that a notorious criminal, Khalid alias Kaloo, who had a head money of Rs 500,000 was in Chak No 103 RB.
The sub-inspector, instead of conducting an immediate raid, arrived at the suspected house after a long delay when the criminal had gone. The RPO took notice of the aborted operation and ordered an inspector to hold an inquiry against him. The inquiry report found the police officer guilty of negligence leading to the escape of the criminal. A show cause notice has been served upon the accused officer.
POLICE CONSTABLE ARRESTED FOR ROBBERY: Jhang Bazaar police have arrested a police constable and his accomplice for a robbery while two of their accomplices are at large. Reportedly, a robbery took place in Gulfashan Colony in the house of Abdul Hameed on February 16. At least four dacoits snatched at gunpoint gold jewellery, wrist watches, Rs 150,000 cash, saving certificates, three mobiles and a motorcycle.
RPO Aftab Ahmed Cheema, taking a serious notice of the incident, directed the Jhang Bazaar police to track down the culprits. The police detained two suspects, Anas Ahmed and Sabir Hussain, and interrogated them who admitted their involvement in the incident. Sabir Hussain is a police constable at Samanabad Police Post. SHO Farrukh Waheed recovered the stolen jewellery from the accused who have named two other gang members involved with them in the robbery.
HOUSE ROBBED, GIRL INJURED: A 15-year-old girl was admitted to Allied Hospital Faisalabad after she was seriously injured by dacoits during a robbery. According to details, a gang of about 12 dacoits scaled the boundary wall of the house of Muhammad Nasir at Chak No 135 JB. They took the whole family hostage at gunpoint, and took away 25 tolas gold and Rs 700,000 cash from the house.
During the course of their operation, when a terrified girl tried to sneak out of the house, the robbers opened fire at her, injuring her seriously. She was taken to Allied Hospital where her condition is serious. The police reached the scene after three hours though it is just located at a 15-minute distance. The residents of the village say that sometimes ago the villagers had killed three dacoits during a similar incident.
