‘Reference to reopen ZAB case a milestone step’

KARACHI – By signing the reference to reopen the Zulfikar Ali Bhutto “judicial murder” case, President Asif Ali Zardari has taken a milestone step in the country’s history that would promote justice discourage decisions that are made on the basis of pressure or prejudice, Pakistan People’s Party Sindh Women Wing Information Secretary Sharmila Farooqui has said. In her statement issued on Saturday, she said that having sent the reference in accordance with Article 186 of the Constitution, President Zardari has proved himself to be the real heir of Zulfikar Ali Bhutto and his this act would also bring peace to the soul of Benazir Bhutto She added that no one except President Zardari had taken such a bold step in the country’s history and his step has given courage and strength to democratic forces.
“It would also help strengthen democracy in the country,” she said, adding that move is a victory for the masses. She said that the decision to hang Bhutto was made under pressure and this was confessed by Justice Naseem Hasan Shah and what the reference is based on. Farooqui said that no one can deny the fact that Bhutto was a leader of international repute. He was the chairman of the OIC and creator of Pakistan atomic project and no proof could be presented in the court against him. She said that PPP respects the judiciary and the party’s leaders and activists have sacrificed a great deal for the restoration of an independent judiciary.
