RAWALPINDI – British authorities have not yet given any response to former president Gen (r) Pervez Musharraf’s arrest warrants that the Pakistani High Commission handed over to the British government, the FIA said on Saturday.
FIA prosecutors Chaudhry Azhar and Chaudhry Zulfiqar said this while appearing in Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) hearing the Benazir Bhutto murder case. During the in-camera hearing at Adiyala Jail, ATC Special Judge Rana Nisar Ahmed took serious notice of FIA’s failure to comply with court orders regarding the former president’s arrest and summoned FIA Director Wajid Zia to appear in court on the next date of hearing on April 9.
Zia is the head of Joint Investigation Team (JIT) probing into the Benazir Bhutto murder case. Talking to reporters outside the courtroom, FIA prosecutor Chaudhry Azhar said the former SHO of city police station, Kashif Riaz, who was plaintiff in the case, had been trying to flee the country.
He said the former SHO had recently requested the Punjab government to allow him to travel abroad. Azhar said he would soon ask the Federal government to put on Raiz’s name on the ECL.
