Coordinating and understanding the surroundings and people

KARACHI – Zunaira Sardar’s work deals with personal space and environment. Her work revolves around these lines, yet she tries to coordinate and understand the surroundings and people she deals with on daily basis. “I have a thirst to find and seek the experiences through commitment and interaction on personal and professional basis. The chaos leads to a conclusion, which is natural yet openly dealt with on the whole,” Sardar says. VASL Art is an artist-led initiative that brings together local and international artists for periods of intense exchange through residencies, workshops, public events and outreach activities.
Though largely based in Karachi, VASL’s activities extend across Pakistan with residencies and events also taking place in Lahore and Islamabad. VASL is the first art organisation of its kind in Pakistan. It has sown the seeds to create an ever widening and engaging structure for collaboration, exchange and artistic support within the country. Countless artists have found the space to experiment on their practice at VASL, advancing their professional careers and contributing to the organisation with their energy, insight and manpower.
VASL has contributed immensely to the local art scene, introducing local residency projects to Pakistan, while also hosting international residencies for artists across the world. International residencies have provided numerous opportunities for mutual interactions and dialogues between Pakistani and foreign artists.
