SNGPL defies presidential orders

LAHORE – The Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited (SNGPL) has defied orders of the president of Pakistan. The SNGPL MD had assured the president that industry will be supplied gas for five days a week from March onwards. Poor management from SNGPL has triggered a potential loss of $1.0 billion in exports and has rendered millions of workers jobless.
The All Pakistan Textile Mills Association (APTMA) spokesman lamented that SNGPL was adamant on destroying the textile industry by continuous and unreasonable curtailment of gas supply. The APTMA spokesman said that SNGPL had initially flouted the decision of ECC for five days gas supply to the textile industry and had later disregarded instruction of the prime minister to implement the ECC decision.
Subsequently, the president took notice of serious mismanagement and called a meeting of industry stakeholders, where SNGPL MD assured the president of five days gas supply to the industry. However, tall claims proved wrong as the SNGPL has slashed gas supply frequency to 3.5 days a week.
