Senators paint alarming picture of Balochistan law and order

ISLAMABAD – Senators from Balochistan on Friday put their voice together to draw the government’s attention towards the “very alarming” law and order situation in the province. Speaking on points of order in the Senate, Senator Ismail Buledi, Hasil Bazenjo, Rehana Yahya Baloch, Lashkari Raisani, Kalsoom Perveen and Mohabbat Khan Marri expressed their concern over the killing of innocent people and asked the government to do the needful for the betterment in Balochistan. “Mutilated bodies of young people are being found from various parts of the province on a daily basis,” they said. Senator Bazenjo said dead bodies of 180 people had been found from various parts of the province during the last four months. He said neither the PM nor the government were concerned about the situation in the province.
Senator Buledi said finding mutilated bodies had become a permanent feature of Balochistan, adding that even the Balochistan chief minister and governor were not safe in the province. Rehana Yahya Baloch also expressed concern over the Balochistan law and order situation, saying Baloch students were being made the target. Senator Kalsoom Perveen asked the government to convene a roundtable conference on the Balochistan issue. Nawab Lashkari Raisani and Mohabbat Khan Marri also invited the attention of the prime minister towards what they called an alarming law and order situation in the province.
Speaking on a point of order, Senator Zahid Khan said his party members were on a silent protest against the attitude of the Senate chairman. He observed that the chairman was not courteous enough to give them time to speak their concerns in the House. Professor Ibrahim Khan staged a token walkout from the House as a mark of protest against the increase in POL prices.The senators also condemned attempts on the life of JUI-F leader Fazlur Rehman and urged the government to take appropriate measures for security of the people.
While condemning the two attacks, Senate Chairman Farooq Naek asked the leader of the House to conduct an inquiry into the attacks and submit a report in the House within a week. Leader of the House Nayyar Hussain Bukhari also condemned the incidents and expressed grief over the loss of precious lives. Later, the House passed a resolution condemning attacks on Fazlur Rehman and expressed grief and sorrow over the loss of innocent lives in the two incident. Senator Haroon Akhtar said 200 industrialists had moved to Bangladesh during the last six months with an investment worth Rs 70 billion and there were reports that more were in the process of investing in other countries.
