Govt to revamp power sector

ISLAMABAD – With the objective of resolving the load-shedding issue, the government decided on Friday to completely revamp the power sector with in order to get rid of load-shedding and address other issues of sustainability in the power sector. The meeting was chaired by President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani. Both took serious notice of the continued load-shedding of power and gas in the country and ordered that no bureaucratic delays and bottlenecks be allowed to stand in the way of revamping the power sector.
The meeting decided to set up a committee comprising Religious Affairs Minister Syed Khursheed Shah, Labour Minister Raja Pervaiz Ashraf, the All-Pakistan Textile Mills Association chairman, and Sui Northern Gas Managing Director Anwer Saifullah Khan to make recommendations for the optimal utilisation of gas in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Punjab. Defense Minister Chaudhry Ahmed Mukhtar, Privatisation Minister Syed Naveed Qamar and other senior officials concerned also attended the meeting.
