Finance body approves Rs 1.57b budget for NA

ISLAMABAD – The Finance Committee of the National Assembly (NA) on Friday approved the revised and proposed budget for the lower house of parliament for the fiscal years 2010-11 and 2011-12 amounting to Rs.1.570 billion and Rs.1.803 billion, respectively.
The committee, which met here at the Parliament House with NA speaker Dr Fehmida Mirza in chair. The participants appreciated the prudent leadership of speaker for initiating austerity measures and maintaining financial discipline in the expenditures of the National Assembly Secretariat. While discussing the re-employment of the retired employees in National Assembly Secretariat in light of the order of the Supreme Court of Pakistan, the committee was of the view that the re-employment was made in accordance with the law on the subject.
The relevant rules have been followed in letter and spirit and the re-employment is in the public interest. The committee also approved purchase of one Hino bus and one Hiace van for providing pick and drop facility to Secretariat staff. The committee also approved increase of fuel/electricity subsidy of 10% admissible to the employees of the Secretariat on pretext of substantial increase in rates of electricity and fuel.
The meeting was attended by MNAs Azeem Daultana, Nafisa Shah, Yasmeen Rehman, Ch Saud Majeed, Malik Ibrar, Engineer Khurrum Dastigir Khan, Mufti Ajmal Khan, Noor-ul-Haq Qadri, Saeed Ahamd Zafar, Istiqbal Khan, Secretary National Assembly, Secretary M/O Finance and other senior officers of the National Assembly Secretariat.
