LAHORE – President Asif Ali Zardari met Law Minister Babar Awan on Thursday and decided that the reference to reopen the Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto case would be filed on April 2 (tomorrow), a private TV channel reported. Awan had announced last week that the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) would file a reference in the Supreme Court (SC) to reopen the Zulfikar Ali Bhutto case and the federal cabinet had approved the decision.Awan had said that the PPP was expecting a response similar to the one in the case of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz chief Nawaz Sharif under the “doctrine of limitations”.
He said the PPP was hopeful that the entire record of the case of Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto had been kept carefully and protected by the officials concerned. He said Bhutto, the PPP’s late founder, was judicially murdered and fake cases were registered against former premier Benazir Bhutto and President Asif Ali Zardari, but the PPP always stood up for the rule of law.
