ISLAMABAD – Senators on Thursday demanded a debate on the Supreme Court’s ruling against the decision of the parliamentary committee on judges’ appointments. The committee had denied extension to four additional judges of the Lahore High Court, but the SC overturned the decision. Ishaq Dar proposed that a detailed judgment of the SC be discussed in the House and recommendations be submitted to the Parliamentary Committee on Constitutional Reforms to remove lacunae, if any, in the constitution.
Senator Sabir Baloch also endorsed Dar’s suggestion. Earlier, Zahid Khan raised the issue and called the SC decision a disgrace for parliament. He was of the view that the parliamentary committee should not accept the role of a post office; rather it should withdraw the notification regarding the formation of the committee if the SC continued to annul its decisions. Nayyer Hussain Bokhari said the parliamentary committee would meet on April 7 to discus the SC decision and consider further course of action in this regard.
