LAHORE – The Lahore Bar Association (LBA) took out a rally on Friday to condemn the desecration of the Quran by Pastor Terry John. The protestors marched from Aiwan-e-Adl to GPO Chowk, The Mall, where they raised slogans condemning the incident and staged a sit-in. The protestors demanded the government approach the International Court of Justice for Jones’s trial and burnt the effigy of the pastor. Earlier the LBA held a general-house meeting headed by LBA President Shahzad Hassan in Aiwan-e-Adl bar room. Shahzad said that the government had not yet taken any action against Quran’s desecration and this attitude was tantamount to criminal negligence.
He said that the ‘ruling elite’, instead of making statements to satisfy their conscience, should approach the US government for taking action against Pastor John. He added that no one should be allowed to ridicule religious sentiment. LBA Secretary Rana Intizar, Amir Iqbal and Shakeela Rana demanded that Jones and his colleagues be awarded capital punishment for desecrating the Quran. The general house of LBA condemned the US government and the Muslims for being silent spectators.
