ISLAMABAD – The Senate was informed on Wednesday that various government departments owed Rs 83,522.47 million to WAPDA and its total recoverable amount across the country was Rs 210,784.64 million.
This was stated in written reply to a question. No supplementary question was raised in the House as the question-answer session was deferred because no minister or anyone who could speak on behalf of the government was present in the House.
Giving the province-wise breakup, the Upper House was told that the Sindh government was the biggest defaulter as its various departments needed to clear Rs 36,669.00 million, Punjab followed with Rs 18,127.52 million, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa with 15,247.93 and Balochistan with 13,478.02 million.
The Senate was also told that 98.52 barrels of oil and 745.81 million cubic feet of gas were being produced per day from Balochistan. In another answer to a question, the minister for water and power said Rs 707.40 million was the outstanding amount of WAPDA against various government departments in FATA.
Giving agency-wise breakup, the House was informed that WAPDA had to recover from various government departments as follows: Rs 34.07 million from Bajaur, Rs 45.75 million from Mohmand, Rs 330.26 million from Khyber, Rs 9.36 million from Orakzai, Rs 50.11 million from Kurram, Rs 4.92 million from Dara (Frontier Region of Kohat also included), Rs 160.53 million from North Waziristan and Rs 72.40 million from South Waziristan.
In another answer, the Upper House was informed that there was Rs 166.7 billion circular debt of the Pakistan State Oil which WAPDA, HUBCO, KEPCO, KESC and PDCs of the government had to pay. The Senate was informed in written reply that that oil and gas were being produced from Sui, Pirkoh, Loti and Uch areas. It was stated that PPL had spend Rs 2,135.20 million and OGDCL had spent Rs 465.12 million on social welfare in the province.
In a reply to a question raised by Maulana Abdul Gafoor Haideri, the Upper House was told that Rs 135.815 had been allocated in the current budget for supply of electricity under PWP-I and II and the amount for providing electricity to 110 villages of Balochistan had been received by the concerned department.
It was also told that around 45 percent of population in the province had been provided electricity so far. In written answer to another question, the house was informed that there were 150 oil and gas fields in the country and no person was provided employment from Balochistan in OGDCL in pursuance of the Balochistan reforms package.
