DERA GHAZI KHAN – Former federal minister and Pakistan Muslim League-Q candidate Owais Ahmed Khan Leghari clinched the vacant National Assembly seat NA-172 in the by-poll held on Tuesday.
According to unofficial results, he obtained 62,355 votes while Hafiz Abdul Karim of the PML-N got 41,579 votes and Shabbir Ahmed Khan Leghari of the PPP bagged 17,254 votes. According to the reports, turnout in the rural areas was much better than the urban centres which the voters seemed reluctant to exercise their right of franchise.
Many incidents of rigging and quarrels were also reported which stopped polling in different areas. At least five people were injured at different polling stations as illegal arms were recovered from a polling agent of the PML-N’s candidate while more than 300 fake ballot papers seized from a local person.
Rangers were deployed to maintain law and order while law enforcers were on a high alert to control law and order situation.
