Lahore in cricket frenzy

LAHORE – The excitement and euphoria for the mother of all the cricket battles has touched its peak, with every single person, young or old, waiting for the momentous clash.
Billions have been put on stake, and one of Pakistan’s senior federal ministers has warned the Pakistan team against any match fixing, just days before the clash. Although the minister apologized to Afridi, the comments certainly added to the pressure on the team.
One wonders how a team – which nowhere among the top teams until last month and was being criticised for one reason or the other – has brought two warring nations to the negotiation table. The politicians of both the countries should focus on negotiations with each other and leave the cricketers alone, so that players can concentrate on the game and give it their best.
After all the political hoopla, one thing the govt has done right is directing the Pakistan Cricket Board to show the Pakistan-India match live on the big screen under lights at the Gaddafi Stadium.
