Daycare centre at KU soon

KARACHI – A daycare centre would be set up soon at the University of Karachi (KU), Sindh Women Development Minister Tauqir Fatima Bhutto said on Tuesday. The minister was speaking with a four-member delegation of the KU faculty that met her at her office.
The delegation was led by Prof Samina Qureshi, who is also the convener of KU day-care managing committee. The minister said that the Department of Women Development in collaboration with the KU would soon set up the daycare centre at the campus – a pilot project. She said that the female faculty members of the KU would benefit from the centre.
The minister said that her department would provide the female staff for the centre that has acquired training in baby-care services. Prof Samina Qureshi said that the vice-chancellor of the KU, Prof Dr Pirzada Qasim Raza Siddiqui has provided premises for the centre at the campus.
She said that the expenses regarding the renovation of the premises, payment of utility bills and other matters would be borne by the university. Prof Qureshi requested the minister that the Department of Women Development should provide funds for the starting the centre and the salaries of the staff.
The minister assured her that the department would extend its cooperation for this purpose and said that suggestions to this effect should be provided to the department at the earliest so that necessary approval could be sought from the Sindh chief minister.
