KARACHI – The Pakistan Customs’ Drug Enforcement Cell-Karachi Airport Unit has recovered four kilogrammes of synthetic psychotropic drugs worth millions of rupees from the suitcase of a Malaysian youth.
Muhammad Rizwan, who was leaving for Penang, Malaysia, was intercepted at the International Departure Hall on suspicion. Since Rizwan could not furnish the authorities with satisfactory responses to their queries and was arousing suspicion in them with his body language, his baggage was thoroughly scanned.
This led to the recovery of a white crystalline substance packed in two polythene bags, which were artfully concealed in a specially-built suitcase with double frame in its base. The substance has been identified as amphetamine, a synthetic substance abused mostly in Europe, America and Far East, and parts of Australia.
The accused has been arrested and a prosecution case under the Control of Narcotic Substances Act 1997 has been registered against him. It is pertinent to mention here that this is the first instance when amphetamine has been detected and seized in Pakistan. This substance is costlier that heroin and other drugs in the international market.
