KARACHI – The housing census in Karachi would take place from April 5 to 19 in which more than 8,000 officials would participate wearing special caps issued by the government, Karachi Administrator Muhammad Hussain Syed said on Tuesday.
Addressing a press conference at the DCO Camp Office, he appealed to the citizens to take special interest in the campaign and cooperate with the staff deputed for the housing census as all future planning and allocation of resources relies directly on this campaign.
City government officers including all EDOs and officers of the Census Department were present at the press conference. The administrator said that the housing census is an important phase of the whole exercise during which every building would be taken as a housing unit whether it contains many families, however, flats in a building would recorded as a single house.
The teams would make door-to-door visits. After this phase is completed, the second phase would be launched from August under which each citizen would be contacted in person and asked for their details by the census teams. He said that two separate teams have been formed that would be monitored by Additional EDO Revenue Matanat Ali Khan and District Officer Abid Zawwabi.
These teams would visit the city to oversee the census work while the DDOs revenue, town municipal administrators and town police officers concerned would also supervise the work within their jurisdiction. The administrator said that 90 percent of the staff for the housing census has been acquired from the Education Department.
