Target killer of more than 100 nabbed

KARACHI – A suspected target killer of “more than 100 people” was nabbed on Monday by the Sindh Police’s Crime Investigation Department (CID) from the New Karachi area. Sources claimed that the apprehended man, Ajmal ‘Pahari’, is an activist of a political party in the coalition government. Pahari was also arrested in 2000 over his alleged involvement in 53 murders, but he was released in 2005. Police officials allege that he has committed 58 murders ever since.
The arrest was announced by Anti Extremism Cell (AEC) SSP Umar Shahid Hamid and Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) SSP Mohammad Aslam Khan at a press conference, where they claimed that a police party raided an area near the Eidgah Ground in Sector 5-D, New Karachi on a tip-off, and apprehended Ajmal alias Shahnawaz alias Pahari after an encounter.
The police also recovered three Kalashnikovs, three 222 rifles, one 8mm rifle, two repeater guns, four hand grenades, two TT pistols and more than 200 rounds of Kalashnikov. During interrogation, the accused confessed to killing a resident of Gulbahar named Ihtisham along with his aides. He also owned up to killing Tariq Bandhani (a resident of Bandhani Colony), Aslam Dilawar (a resident of Orangi Town), and Imran (a resident of Lyari Town). In 2007, he killed one unidentified man in Lines Area, and 14 others in the Pak Colony area. He also disclosed that along with his aides, he killed six people in the Ranchore Lines area in 2006. The suspect has been shifted to an undisclosed location for further investigation.
