ANTI-ENCROACHMENT DRIVE LAUNCHED: An anti-encroachment drive has been launched in the main streets and bazaars of the city on the directions of the Punjab chief minister. In this connection, an anti-encroachment team, headed by the DCO, started removing encroachments on Church Road and other link roads. The affected traders staged a demonstration, blocked the roads and burnt tyers. As the provincial Ushr and Zakat minister reached the spot, the traders showed him the receipts issued by the TMA.
The minister assured them that in future the TMA and police would not dislodge. He also assured them that the TMA officers would be transferred. On these assurances, the traders again opened their shops. On the other hand, the TMA officials said all the encroachments would be removed and no interference from corner would be accepted.
