PGMI should focus on research, says Cambridge University dean

LAHORE – Post-graduate Medical Institute (PGMI) Lahore is an international standard institution. The graduates of PGMI are rendering their educational and professional services in various countries, which is a matter of honour for the Principal as well as faculty members of PGMI.
These views were expressed by the Dean Medical Education Department Cambridge University UK, Prof John Bigg while addressing a seminar on medical education in PGMI here on Sunday in Lahore. He said that PGMI is the role model medical education institute. The seminar was also addressed by gynecologist Dr Shahid Barlas of UK, Principal PGMI and Professor of Gynecology Dr Rubina Suhail.
Besides, faculty members, Additional Dean PGMI Prof Fouzia Farzana, MS Dr Zafar Ikram and a number of doctors attended the seminar. Prof John Bigg said that he reviewed the medical institutions and the facilities in all four provinces and he was of the view that PGMI Lahore has a distinction. He proposed that two year diploma course should be offered to family physicians for improving the health sector in Pakistan.
Prof John Bigg said that he has presented his recommendations to the government of Pakistan. He urged upon the doctors not to depend only on MBBS degree but should indulge in research work as well for updating their knowledge.
