Moonis Elahi’s remand extended

LAHORE – Local judicial magistrate Irfan Basra on Monday extended the physical remand of Moonis Elahi involved in National Insurance Corporation Scam till April 1. Earlier, FIA authorities produced the accused before the court to obtain an extension in his physical remand after the completion of earlier ten day remand. During the hearing defence counsel Muhammad Iqbal Bhatti argued that the FIA was unable to recover a single rupee from Moonis Elahi during the ten day physical remand which proved his innocence. He claimed the FIA was obtaining his remand on baseless grounds.
He further argued his client was being politically victimize and had been arrested without the registration of a case against him. The FIA’s counsel argued that the accused was involved in the embezzlement of hundreds of million rupees and was not as innocent as he posed before the court. The counsel argued that he was involved in white collar crime and the investigation of such cases was a long process and could not be completed without an extension in his remand. After hearing the arguments, the court extended the physical remand of accused for another four days. On the occasion, a number of PML-Q workers were present outside the court chanting slogans for Moonis Elahi’s acquittal.
