LAHORE – The semi-final between Pakistan and India is being taken very seriously by the locals of the metropolis. Forwarded messages which include jokes, mild conspiracies reservations and religious tips for the match are being sent to one and other.
Yes, this is the same match which was being discussed by everyone even before the World Cup series had started, Pakistan versus India and adding to the excitement the life long rivals are meeting in a very crucial game, its the semi final of the world cup series.
Joking around: The Pakistan-India match had always been more than a match from the start, but this time it’s something extra and something different. Many forwarded messages are being tossed back and forth by the locals of Lahore. Many funny jokes are being shared between residents of the metropolise.
One message read: ‘Dhoni asked his wife to bring him a cup of tea, when his wife arrived with the tea, Dhoni noticed that his wife was serving tea in a saucer rather than a cup, so Dhoni asked his wife where’s the cup? She replied, Afridi took the cup.’ Another funny message read ‘This time Pakistan is going to play against the in-laws’ (Sania Mirza case.)
A prayer for the team, please? Some message containing religious advises like ‘please pray after every namaz for the victory of Pakistan’ and ‘please raise your hands for Pakistan’s victory after the Jumma Prayers our team needs it’ were forwarded.
Emotional messages included a message which read ‘we demand the youth of this country to get together on this Jumma as this is the last Jumma before Wednesday (the semifinal) and pray for the greenshirts, its not about the world cup now, its about this country’s integrity, their country, their city, their pitch, their public against our 11 soldiers, for the success of our soldiers only one prayer is needed so lets get together and raise our hands for them and by the grace of God our team would win.’
Fixed: Other messages contained some reservations and fears of the locals. One message read ‘Breaking News, the semi final between Pakistan and India has been fixed by the Pakistani government, Babar Awan has links with Indian Bookie Himesh Dalmiya, the Pakistani government is trying to make Pakistan loose this match, please forward this message so the government is stopped from doing so, this is a question of our honour’.
Media, as usual: The media has a lot to do in enhancing the feelings before the main event. The media on both sides of the borders are on fire. Experts are being called in for analysis; former cricketers, commentators and even astrologist are being invited for future prediction. An Indian news agency has already accused their own team for fixing the semifinal. The media is being criticized bitterly.
The semi final between Pakistan and India is the talk of the town. People are seen planning for the game, event management companies have hopped in to cash the moments, almost all hotel restaurants, cafes, colleges and universities are planning to screen the match.
