LAHORE – University of Lahore convincingly beat the University of Central Punjab in the final of the 2nd Inter-varsity Rugby Championship. Top seeded UCP looked a better side on paper but University of Lahore displayed good rugby sense with some great passes and good running and put up two tries in the first half to take the lead.
UCP, who had dominated the tournament until the final, showed great strength and kept attacking, but tried to use strength rather than relying on their backs and wings. Later in the second half, they got a consolation try but the match ended in a 21-5 win for UoL. In the third position playoff match, last year’s champions Islamia University of Bahawalnagar were upset by University of Veterinary Sciences, who got the only try of the game to win the match 5-nil.
