SL enter semis for third time

STATE CORNER – Sri Lanka entered the semi-finals of the World Cup for the third time after defeating England by 10 wickets in the fourth quarter-final at R Premadasa Stadium, Colombo on Saturday. Runners-up four years ago, Sri Lanka also qualified for the semis in 1996 when they became the world champions by beating Australia in the final at Lahore.
Tillakaratne Dilshan became the seventh Sri Lankan and 32nd batsman overall to score 10 or more hundreds in ODIs. Tillakaratne Dilshan’s 10th century (108 not out) came in the 177th innings of 201 matches.
Upul Tharanga (102) and Tillakaratne Dilshan (108) scored hundreds. It was the second time in World Cup and 23rd time in ODIs when the two opening batsmen hit centuries in an inning.
Upul Tharanga and Tillakaratne Dilshan became the first opening pair to make 2 double century stands in World Cup.
