Gilani, Bandar discuss Afghanistan, Gulf situation

ISLAMABAD – Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani and Saudi Arabian National Security Council Secretary General Prince Bandar Bin Sultan Bin Abdul Aziz Al Saud on Saturday discussed the alarming situation of public uprising in the Gulf states besides exploring ways and means to restore peace to Afghanistan through a joint strategy of talks with the local warring factions.
The visiting Saudi prince called on the prime minister at the PM’s House and briefed him on the Saudi perception of the situation in the Gulf and Middle East and his government’s stance on the current political developments in the region. He said the socio-economic difficulties in some areas of the Gulf and Middle East affected the political environment, adding that the process of dialogue started in some Gulf countries had helped to understanding the problems of the people.
He said that the dialogue and reconciliation was the only means to move forward. He expressed confidence that the economic packages announced during the recent GCC meeting would help bring about peace, prosperity and economic development of the entire region. Gilani said the strength of close and brotherly relations between Pakistan and Saudi Arabia was based on the spirit of love and affection between the peoples of the two countries.
Prince Bandar said the Saudi government and people had great respect, regard and love for the government and people of Pakistan. He said Saudi Arabia considered Pakistan as a close strategic partner and held the leadership of Pakistan in high esteem.
