ISLAMABAD – The court hearing the Hajj scam case Saturday remanded Former minister for religious affairs Hamid Saeed Kazmi in the physical custody of the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) for another four days.
Kazmi has been in FIA’s custody since his arrest on March 15 for his alleged involvement in Hajj corruption case. Kazmi was brought to the court of Senior Civil Judge Rai Liaqat Kharal under tight security as dozens of his supporters had assembled outside the courtroom chanting slogans in his favour.
The court extended Kazmi’s physical remand after FIA prosecutor Khalid Naeem produced a document indicating that the former minister had ordered appointment of Ahmad Faiz, a hajj directorate supervisor, who had also been alleged to have played a role in Hajj scam. He said the FIA needed more time to quiz Kazmi. Naseem informed the court that FIA would hire services of a handwriting expert to verify if Kazmi had signed Faiz’s appointment letter.
