ISLAMABAD – Pakistan and Uganda has genial relations which can form a platform for vastly improved levels of bilateral trade between the two countries can be enhanced. In order to the facilitate access to Pakistan’s products, Uganda has planned to establish a warehouse at Kampala which would open a gateway for Pakistani exporters and also enhance trade ties between Pakistan and Uganda, Ambassador of Uganda in Pakistan Dr Mohamed Ahmed Kisuule made these remarks in a meeting at the Islamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ICCI).
The ambassador noted that trade must be the cornerstone of diplomatic relations and the real potential of bilateral trade has to be explored. Uganda would host an ICCI delegation for exploring business opportunities and could consider appointment of an Honorary Consul general at Islamabad in consultation with ICCI in future, he added.
Kisuule told those present that his country needs cooperation not assistance, there was a great potential for enhancing trade ties in the fields of Light Engineering goods, Pharmaceuticals, and tractors. Pakistan should take notice of those Pakistani products which were being sold with Indian Tags, he said.
In his welcome address, ICCI Vice President Muhammad Tauseef Zaman said that Pakistan considers Uganda as a close friend despite the vast geographical distance. Pakistan should also focus the African markets, which have huge potential for our commodities mainly for rice exports”, he opinioned.
Zaman said that Pakistan has added new products to its export basket so it should also capture new export markets. This is the right time to focus African markets and measures are required to be taken for improving relations between Pakistan and the African region, he stressed.
