LAHORE – Police were off to a brilliant start in the 46th National Men’s Volleyball Championship, defeating Higher Education Commission in straight sets here on Friday at Wapda Sports Complex, Lahore In the other three matches, Punjab beat Sindh 3-1(25-17, 18-25, 25-14, 25-16), Railways overpowered AJK 3-1and Army routed Balochistan 3-0.
Police displayed an all-round performance, dominating with superior attacking skills and winning the match 25-13, 25-14, 25-12. Police were far ahead in both attack and defence. They cut down all attacks by the HEC team with agility and brilliant blocking. The most outstanding players for Police were Nasir Khan and Kashif Mansoor, while HEC got support from Yasir and Sikandar Shah. KPK carved out a 3-0 (25-17, 25-19, 25-17) win over FATA after controlling the match from start to end.
Their best players were Muhammad Adnan, Abid ullah and Muhammad Asif Khan. FATA’s leading player was Sherpao. KPK adopted an attacking strategy and dominated with a fast-paced game, which shattered the defence of their struggling opponents. Railway dropped the second set before beating a spirited AJK 3-1 (25-22, 24-26, 25-21, 25-13).
Army had an easy sailing against Balochistan with a fine 3-0 (25- 15, 25- 17, 25-13) success. Balochistan lacked the basics of the game, and failed in guarding their area. Lt. Gen Syed Arif Hasan, President POA, was the chief guest at the opening ceremony. Five more matches will be played on Saturday: Navy v Fata, Army v Sindh, PAF v HEC, WAPDA v AJK, Punjab v Balochistan.
