Muslims should actively defend Pakistan: Munib

LAHORE – Muslims should actively defend Islam instead of passing resolutions against the US and the West, Ruet-e-Hilal Committee Chairman Mufit Munibur Rehman said on Saturday. He was addressing a seminar titled, “Integrity of Pakistan and our responsibilities” at the Jamia Naeemia. Munib said that lawlessness is reigning supreme and rulers are present everywhere but government is nowhere. “In such circumstances, who can give the assurance of the integrity of the country,” he asked. Pointing a finger at the role of the courts in the Raymond Davis case, he asked the Supreme Court to take suo motu notice of the issue.
The veteran cleric said that the rhetoric of Sufi Islam has nothing to do with the true teachings of the saints. “Sufism is not an empty slogan, actually it is a force that always poses a challenge to evil,” the Ruet-e-Hilal Committee chairman said. Tehreek-e-Namoos-e-Risalat Convener Abual Khair Zubair said that terrorists threaten the integrity of Pakistan and former Jamia Naeemia principal Dr Sarfraz Naeemi issued a decree against terrorists so that terrorism could be eliminated but due to negligence and mismanagement of the rulers, terrorism and drone attacks are increasing.
Pakistan Today Editor Arif Nizami said that the Jamia Naeemia truly represents the masses and its sacrifices for the country are immense. He said that Dr Sarfraz Naeemi gave his life fighting against terrorism and extremism because terrorism tears the nation apart. Nizami said that Dr Naeemi wanted to see Pakistan as envisioned by the Quaid-e-Azam and Allama Iqbal. The veteran journalist said that his father Hameed Nizami also had the same dream due to which he established the Nawa-e-Waqt.
Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) Member of the National Assembly (MNA) Khawaja Saad Rafique demanded formation of a judicial commission, headed by a retired Supreme Court judge, to expose the people who facilitated Davis in leaving the country. He said that the PML-N will raise the Raymond Davis issue during the National Assembly’s (NA) upcoming session. PML-N MNAs Captain (r) Safdar, Sardar Ayaz Sadiq, columnist Syed Irshad Ahmed Arif, TV anchor Sohail Warriach, Qari Zawar Bhadar, Dr Raghib Hussain Naeemi, Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) Religious Affairs Minister Sahibzada Hamid Raza and others also spoke on the occasion.
During the seminar, resolutions were passed against the Holy Quran’s desecration in the US. The Punjab government was urged to end its tussle with PCS officers and doctors amicably, as people are suffering immensely. Participants of the seminar unanimously passed a resolution demanding the Punjab government to arrest Dr Naeemi’s killers and the people responsible for the suicide bombing at the Data Darbar. Prayers were also held for the Pakistani cricket team’s victory in the World Cup.
