PESHAWAR – At least eight people were killed and another eight injured on Friday when armed assailants ambushed a convoy of vehicles carrying passengers to Parachinar, officials said. The militants also took 45 people hostage and took along three vehicles after the attack.
The caravan of vehicles was on way to Parachinar from Lower Kurram agency when it was attacked near Bagan, considered a stronghold of militants in Kurram agency. The attackers torched two of the five buses in the convoy.
Those killed belonged to the Toori tribe of Kurram agency that has put up a tough fight against the Taliban. Hundreds have been killed in clashes between Tooris and their Taliban-backed rivals in recent months.
