ISLAMABAD – The Supreme Court ordered on Thursday that the investigation against former Establishment Division secretary Ismail Qureshi be conducted by the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA)’s Additional Director General Syed Jawed Ali Bukhari, subject to a final order that might be passed after hearing the matter in the main case on April 8.
An order passed by Justice Raja Fayyaz Ahmed in an in-chamber hearing, however, stated that “in the meanwhile, Ismail Qureshi not be arrested”. The court told Qureshi to fully cooperate in the investigation of the case and appear in court for the next hearing on April 8.
The court also noted that the federal and provincial government had not submitted final reports so far about the implementation of the court’s orders passed from time to time in the Haj and National Insurance Company Limited (NICL) scam cases.
Justice Ahmed noted in his order that in light of the progress report submitted by FIA Director and Investigating Officer Hussain Asghar in the Haj scam case on March 22, and keeping in view apprehensions expressed by FIA Additional Director General Zafar Ahmed Qureshi, who was investigating the NICL case, the issuing of notice to the FIA for April 8 – the date fixed in the main case – was crucial.
