FAISALABAD – The relatives and friends of a murdered cable operator gathered in front of the Faisalabad Press Club (FPC) to protest against the police inaction towards the arrest of an alleged killer. About two weeks back, cable operator Muhammad Shahbaz was killed by Qasim after a trivial altercation in Gulshan Colony under the jurisdiction of Gulberg Police Station. The victim’s brother Abbas registered first information report (FIR) with Gulberg police but they were unable to arrest the killer even after two weeks.
More than 100 protestors led by plaintiff Abbass gathered in front of the FPC near District Council Chowk and chanted slogans against the Gulberg police station house officer (SHO) and Sub-Inspector Muhammad Asghar for their incompetence. They blocked the road causing a traffic jam, arranged a sit-in and demanded the arrest of the killer. Civil Lines Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Abdul Razzaq Niazi, along with other police officers, came to the scene and negotiated with the protestors to end the protest. The protestors called off their sit-in after assurance from the police.
POLICE OVERLOOK MATCH BETTINGS: As Pakistan thrashed West Indies by 10 wickets during the quarter final of the Cricket World Cup, Faisalabad police, despite strict orders to catch the gamblers, overlooked the local scenes where millions of rupees were won and lost in the city. There was not even a single report of any police raid in any part of the city to catch the offenders that proved the fact that police’s silence was deliberate. It is reported that a number of police stations including Gulberg, Jhang Bazar, Kotwali Road, Ghulam Muhammad Abad, Sargodha Road and D Type Colony had prior intelligence reports of gambling but the police did not bother to monitor these illegal transactions.
POLICE found STEALING ELECTRICITY: Water and Power Development Authority (WAPDA) raided two police stations and found that electricity was being stolen there directly from the main cables. Reportedly, Manguana police post under Langrana Police Station and Pansara Road police post were raided by the task team headed by Ehsan Ali who found that the police station’s building and seven other houses occupied by the police officers’ families were given direct electricity. The team disconnected the illegal power supply and registered a case.
The team also raided the Jameaabad police post under the jurisdiction of Bhawana Police Station and found illegal electricity supply to Jameaabad that was also disconnected and a case of theft was registered by the team.
