LAHORE – Thousands of devotees from across the country on Friday thronged the shrine of Hazrat Shah Hussain, also known as Madhu Lal Hussain, to celebrate the second day of the Mela Chiraghan or the festival of lights. Mela Chiraghan has started as the three-day Urs has been scheduled for March 26 to 28. Last night a huge rush of devotees was seen at the shrine and many people kept visiting the shrine to offer Fateha.
Devotees lit up candles at the shrine, offered floral wreaths and danced fervently to show their love for the Sufi saint, who was a saint and a reputed Punjabi poet. Several families were also seen enjoying the festival while a number of malangs also gathered to celebrate the Urs and this connection they had set up different colours tents around the shrine, where competitions of singing Kafis of Shah Hussain also continued. All the government institutions including varsities, colleges and schools of the city will remain closed on account of Mela Charaghan.
