LHCBA holds rally against Terry Jones

LAHORE – The Lahore High Court Bar Association (LHCBA) on Friday took out a rally to condemn the desecration of the Quran by Pastor Terry Jones. The protestors marched from the LHCBA to the Mall at GPO Chowk, where they raised slogans condemning the incident. Earlier the bar held a meeting in which they decided to take out this rally. In the general house meeting, they demanded the government approach the International Court of Justice for Jones’s trial.
They demanded that Jones and his colleagues be awarded capital punishment for desecrating the Quran. The bar also condemned the US government and the Muslims being silent spectators. LHCBA President Asghar Ali Gill said that the ‘ruling elite’, apart from making statements to satisfy their conscience, should approach the US government for taking action against Terry. He said no one should be allowed to ridicule others’ religious sentiments.
Meanwhile, a meeting headed by the Judicial Activism Panel (JAP) Chairman Muhammad Azhar Siddique also condemned the incident. The meeting held that the Quran would not have been desecrated if Raymond Davis was not released. The JAP called for boycott of the Western products and for an inquiry by the judiciary or parliamentary committee into Davis’ release.
