LAHORE – The Lahore High Court (LHC) on Friday directed the Punjab inspector general of police (IGP) to look into the promotion matter of two DSPs and report by March 3. The IGP appeared in court after he was issued notice for not responding to summons. He tendered an unconditional apology and said he was not informed about the court notice by the officer concerned and a departmental inquiry had been initiated against that officer for negligence. The court accepted the apology and directed him to look into the matter and file the progress report.
Faisalabad Traffic Police DSP Mariam Naheed and Sheikhupura Police DSP Aslam Niazi filed the petitions and submitted that the department was not promoting them to the rank of SP. They said the department put a condition of two-year experience in fieldwork for the promotion and though they were ready to serve in the field, the department did not select them for a field job. They said, thus, it was not their fault that they lacked field job experience and prayed the court to direct the department to promote them to the rank of SPs.
