MPA wants Lyari’s women to lead societal change

KARACHI – Sindh Katchi Abadis and Spatial Development Minister Rafique Engineer has urged upon the girls of Lyari that they should discharge their skills professionally to bring honour and recognition to the area, as higher educational institutions for providing modern education have been provided by the present government.
He said this while addressing as the chief guest at a ‘Qirat and Naat Competition’ organised during the students’ week celebrations at Ronaqul Islam Degree Girls College, Lyari. “Lyari is a mini-Pakistan and students can play a pivotal role in promoting healthy educational activities through their talent and skills,” said Engineer.
He said the PPP-led government has set up higher educational institutions in Lyari to give latest quality education to the students of the area. Steps are being taken under the Lyari Package for provision of books in school/college libraries and other necessary equipment and machinery, while improving the building structures of the educational institutions, he added.
“President Asif Ali Zardari and Sindh Chief Minister Qaim Ali Shah are also giving top priority to the development of Lyari,” said the minister. Speaking on the occasion earlier, MPA Dr Salim Hingoro said that Lyari has a lot of talented students and it was the dream of Benazir Bhutto Shaheed to develop the area through modern educational facilities. “Work for the fulfilment of her dream of ‘Lyari Girls University’ would become also become true soon,” he added.
Lyari Town Administrator Muhammad Raeesi said that with the help and cooperation of the elected representatives of Lyari, the educational institutions have been improved. “The talented students in an uncertain situation prevailing in the Lyari area have been given priority in development,” he said, adding ‘to defend and project our country, we should come forward collectively and our foremost thinking and central thought should be ‘Pakistan first.’
College Principal Parveen Luni, Ghulam Sakina, Aneesa Ghaffar and others also spoke on the occasion. Engineer along with Hingoro distributed shields and cash prizes among the winning students and assured the college administration of help in resolving their problems.
