LAHORE – Local Judicial Magistrate Ikhtisham Sadiq on Thursday extended the physical remand of Moonis Elahi, involved in National Insurance Corporation Scam, until March 28. Earlier, Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) produced Moonis in court to get extension in his physical remand after the completion of the second term of his remand. During the hearing, defense counsel, Muhammad Iqbal Bhatti, argued that Moonis was innocent and was being politically victimized. He said that Moonis was arrested without the registration of any case against him.
The FIA’s counsel argued that Moonis was involved in a white-collar crime and the case’s investigation required time, thus extension in Moonis’ remand was necessary. The court, after hearing the arguments, extended Moonis’ physical remand for another four days. At this occasion, more than one hundred PML-Q workers were present outside the court and were chanting slogans for Moonis’ acquittal.
