Christians condemn desecration of Quran

LAHORE – Different Christian institutes of Lahore under the auspices of National Council for Interfaith Dialogue, URI Pakistan and Justice Peace Commission on Thursday condemned the desecration of the Quran by an American Pastor Terry Jones. Pakistan Massihah Party also held a protest in this connection in front of the Lahore Press Club.
Christian community leaders, Fr Francis Nadeem, Fr Abid Habib, Fr James Channan (OP) and Fr Samson Dilawar held that Jones was not a Christian because Christianity does not allows such activities. Various religious parties including World Paasban-e-Khatme-Nabowat and Sunni Tehreek also held protests outside the Lahore Press Club and said that this incident was a Jewish conspiracy. Jamiat Ulema Pakistan (JUP) has announced nationwide protests in this regard while JUP president will lead a protest outside Lahore Press Club today.
Insaf Students Federation (ISF) president urged the citizens to raise this voice against this act and said that soon a movement against this act will be initiated. Pak-America Society president condemns Quran’s desecration: Pak-America Society President Pervaiz Iqbal termed the desecration of the Quran in one of the churches of America, a sorrowful act. “This was done only to gain fame Muslims should boycott American and European products and mount pressure on them to establish a law that ensures that such incident doesn’t happen again,” said Iqbal.
Iqbal said that according to the American law, Terry Jones could not be prosecuted for the Quran’s desecration. “We should take part in more humanitarian activities and should prove by our conduct that Muslims are a peace loving nation. Military drive against Libya is not a part of the crusades but the Americans have started criticizing the foreign policies,” he said. “The American Muslims have complete freedom and there is no city in America that does not have a mosque. Muslims in American jails, institutes and street are allowed to talk openly about Islam,” he said.
qbal said that Jones was an ordinary church father with a limited number of followers. He said that when last year Jones refrained from desecration owing to government pressure but this time he managed to do this blasphemous act. He stressed that there were extremists in America too.
