SIALKOT – The teams of GEPCO have restored the suspended electricity supply to the 15 tornado-hit villages near Head Marala, Sialkot. Gujranwala GEPCO Chief Executive Muhammad Ibrahim Majoka disclosed this while talking to journalists.
JI LEADER PASSES AWAY: Sialkot-based 78-year-old exporter and Jamaat-e-Islami Sialkot leader Professor Muhammad Ameen Javaid passed away after protracted illness. He was the father of ex-district nazim and former Sialkot Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCI) president Mian Naeem Javaid.
He was laid to rest in his native graveyard at Model Town Sialkot in the presence of hundreds of mourners from all walks of life. Jamaat-e-Islami Amir Professor Syed Munawar Hassan and General Secretary Liaqat Baloch have offered condolences to the bereaved family of Prof Ameen Javaid and prayed for the departed soul.
LAWYER SENT ON FOUR-DAY REMAND: A local court in Daska granted a four-day physical remand of lawyer Zahid Mehmood Goraya and gave him into the custody of Daska police in a case of torturing Daska Bar Association General Secretary Saeed Sarwar Baryar with the help of his accomplices, over a money dispute.
Meanwhile, the lawyers of Daska continued their strike for the second day in protest against the incident.
PEOPLE PROTEST AGAINST DOCTOR: Hundreds of people staged a demo near Motra Police Station, Daska, against a private hospital’s doctor, holding him responsible for the death of a cleric, Muhammad Sadiq Rizvi. The people who were carrying banners and chanting slogans against the hospital management demanded immediate arrest of the doctor. They told journalists that Jamiat-e-Ulema-e-Pakistan (JUP) Sialkot President Maulana Muhammad Sadiq Rizvi was brought to Tufail Hospital as he was suffering from severe cough. They added that Dr Jamshaid Akbar injected blood into the veins of the patient, after which he died instantly.
Dr Jamshaid Akbar and the hospital’s management argued that the cleric was a severe patient of diabetes, kidney and heart and died his natural death.
RS 52B REFUND CLAIMS STILL PENDING: The sales tax refund claims worth Rs 52 billion have been lying pending for the last several years at the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) which were to be paid to the country’s exporters and industrialists.
Pakistan Readymade Garments Manufacturers and Exporters Association (PRGMEA) Central Chairman Ejaz A Khokhar said this while talking to journalists. He expressed his concern over the situation and said despite making repeated promises the sales tax refunds had not been paid yet. He alleged that the FBR authorities had been adopting delaying tactics in the payment of refund claims.
